Blogging from the top of the world

See my previous post for a brief explanation of the situation, but here I am posting another brief note letting anyone else know what's going on. I am almost literally at the top of the world in the subarctic city of Fairbanks Alaska. So amongst my other rants you can expect to see a few about the weather here. Right now its about 0 degrees F and falling and it's still only fall. So for those who don't know, it's going to get much colder and much darker soon, possibly down to 50 or 60 below. I almost can't wait to rant about it, but it's still "warm" for now so I'll hold off. Anyways, this is just a short update. I'm set up here now, so hopefully I'll post a bit more often and put some more interesting stuff up here.

Busy, Busy

Well this is not quite how I planned for this blog to go, but I will be running all over the place the next couple weeks, so I won't be updating often. I was just starting to get this thing off and running, so for any of you who might run across this, check back in a couple weeks.

Votevets.org

I simply had to react about an ad I just saw on Fox News which surprised me. Firstly, everyone knows Fox News is biased towards Conservatives. This is why I watch it mostly anyways, until it starts to annoy me with its alarmist and dumbed-down style. But I digress.... Votevets.org ran an ad on FoxNews that had an Iraq veteran(or supposed vet, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt) that is trying to capitalize on the Rush Limbaugh story.

If you haven't seen it, Rush Limbaugh supposedly called some people in the military phony soldiers and Mediamatters.org picked up on it and took it out of context. In actuality, he was talking about a blogger who made up stories of our soldiers committing atrocities in Iraq. This phony soldier was indeed in the military, but never served in Iraq. At least that is how the story goes. So in essence he was a fake, and there have been other phony stories as well. If you have read any of my posts within the last couple weeks you would know I believe in intelligent debate and that includes members of our military too. They should be the first to be allowed to speak out about a war in which they will have to put their lives on the line. The problem is this -- if you lie about events that didn't happen or even try to take someone's words and twist them to your benefit, you are dishonest and phony. So with that in mind, the blogger who made up stories to get hits on his blog, mediamatters.org, and now votevets.org should all get the Phony Soldier Award because the lies and half-truths are simply dishonorable.
